Possible, but not probable
Sure, things need to chage, but we have plenty of assets as well. There will need to be an entire paradigm shift from spending to saving, but the current ecomomic climate is most likely going to force that change without anyone being able to decide anyway. Things will get worse this year, then in mid 2010 we'lll start to come out of it.

depends on how you define "collapse".
thing WILL change and are changing, but "collapse" is not likely. too many large corporations, and nations depend on America as a fiscal partner.

How do you define "collapse?" The Fed will do ANYTHING to keep the economy going. Just look what it has done already, with banks, autos, housing, etc. However, the Fed will be planting seeds of future distress, so recovery will take years. congress will, of course, make a difficult situation even worse.
